Doctoral Dissertation

PDF or paper copy, 307 pages

This doctoral thesis, "Needs Assessment Survey to Determine the Training Requirements of International Bahá'í Traveling Teachers," documents the training needs of personnel on international service projects. The survey of 200 returned volunteers and Bahá'í Institutions in the 81 countries they visited, was done under the auspices of the U.S. Bahá'í International Goals Committee. The study focuses on cross-cultural communication, critical incidents, training and materials design.

Based on the findings, teacher selection criteria are recommended and a four-level orientation and training program is outlined.

The dissertation was published through Boston University (1982), receiving the University's Ansin Intercultural Research Award and the Association for Bahá'í Studies Graduate Research Award (1983).
